5 Ways to Cozy Up Your Home For Fall

Fall is one of my favorite times to host. There’s something so special about welcoming people into a cozy, inviting space as the weather cools down! When it comes to fall decorating, it’s all about setting the mood and making your home feel warm and welcoming. Whether you’re having friends over or just spending a quiet evening in, here are some ways to make the space feel more comforting and layered as we head into the holidays.

1. Swap out pillows for cozy textures

When it comes to cozying up your home for fall, swapping out a few pillows can make all the difference. I’m not saying you need to go crazy and change every pillow in the house (trust me, I get how expensive that can be and I don’t even do that). But, adding a couple with fall textures like velvet or sherpa can really bring in those cozy vibes. I’m all about mixing in some soft and fluffy textures without breaking the bank. One thought is to keep your everyday pillows around and just layer in a few warm-toned, snuggly ones to give the space that comfy, fall-ready feel.

2. Wrap up in cozy

Okay, let’s be real—when fall hits, there’s no such thing as too many throw blankets! Every year, I tell myself we have enough, and every year, I end up buying more 😂 They just get so much use in our house that by the time fall rolls around, they’re all a little… well-loved. I usually stick to more budget-friendly options because we go through them like crazy. But, a big basket of throw blankets is just so nice to have on hand for yourself and for guests as well. They’re perfect for when people are over, curling up on the couch and having a glass of wine, visiting by the fire … all that good stuff!

3. Seasonal greens

We’re always talking about greenery, right? So, it totally makes sense to swap out bright, summery tones for something a little more seasonal. Think fresh greenery with more muted, earthy vibes, or even some branches with leaves that are changing color. It’s such an easy switch, but it instantly makes your home feel more fall-ish. Dried flowers are another go-to — and they last forever (bonus!). I’ve been dying to dry out some hydrangeas this year. They’re create a perfect fall look, and they add that lived-in vibe without trying too hard.

4. Bowls and Centerpieces

One of my favorite things to do is gather pine cones from outside and pop them into a bowl—easy peasy and super autumnal. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, you can fill a bowl with seasonal fruit like crisp apples, or even better, a mix of squash, pumpkins, and zucchini. When presented as a centerpiece running down your dining table, they really bring in the season!

5. Moody and ambient lighting

As the days get shorter and fall settles in, getting your lighting just right becomes even more important. Nothing beats the warm, cozy glow of a lamp to create that inviting autumn ambiance. Remember to turn off the harsh overhead lights and rely on softer, more flattering light sources to set the mood.

I recommend having at least one or two sources of ambient lighting in each room. Whether it’s a floor lamp, a table lamp, or even some sconces, these elements can make a huge difference. And, if you’re not keen on hardwiring or dealing with visible cords, check out these cool bulbs! I recently came across these nifty lights that are rechargeable and come with a remote. They’re perfect if you want to avoid the hassle of wiring while still enjoying the flexibility of adjusting your lighting from afar.

***

As we dive into the cozy vibes of fall, it’s wonderful to create a warm and inviting space for entertaining. The most important part is to make sure your home feels like a true retreat for yourself. After a long day, your home should be a place where you can kick back, recharge, and fully relax. By adding those personal touches—whether it’s cozy throws, warm lighting, or seasonal décor—you’re not just preparing for fall; you’re crafting a space that rejuvenates you and makes every moment at home feel special.

All the tips and deets I shared on the blog yesterday… comment ‘BLOG’ and I’ll send you there.
I grew up with a mom that was Martha 2.0 and I inherited that same love for effortless, elevated hosting.
The truth? You don’t need to be perfect. A few simple ingredients, a little intention, and the people you love is all it takes to make memories that last a lifetime.
The Clouz Houz philosophy has always been simple: soul over perfection. We design homes that look lived-in, loved, and layered. Never sterile, never one-note.
Our process is rooted in mixing: mixing texture, mixing eras, mixing personal history with sculptural, collected pieces that bring depth and personality to a room.
When you work with us, you’re not getting a look….. you’re getting a story - one that grows with you.
If your home feels a little too “flat” we can help you create a space that feels uniquely yours!

ICYMI... I hand-picked every gift in this guide - all relating back to the nostalgia of growing up with a mom who was Martha Stewart 2.0. And while Martha was known for handmade gifts (so was my mom) these are items that I think she would approve of. 🥰
Things that actually feel special, not just another “add to cart” moment. I wanted each piece to feel thoughtful, a little bespoke, and worth giving. Some are handmade, others are heirloom-quality or small-batch, but all of them share that same feeling of care.
These are the kinds of gifts l’d give to my closest friends. They’re unique, elevated, and made to last well beyond the season.
Comment ‘GUIDE’ and I’ll send you our curated holiday edit!
Comment ‘EDIT’ for this month’s round up...basically all the things I’m feeling inspired by (and let’s be honest, a few things I’m coveting).
If you are new here, we release our edits at the beginning of each month- they are items I’m loving along with design ideas and style concepts that keep the creativity flowing.
And if you are intrigued for more, we will be diving into it all tomorrow on the blog!
