About Us

Our Story

📍 Bend, Oregon

“We strive to bring you the same joy we've experienced throughout years of investing in our homes"

We believe every home has possibilities. Our mission is to help you create the functional, beautiful home you have always wanted. We think each and every project we tackle deserves attention to detail with quality materials and design consideration.

The Story

How it all Began

We’ve lived in 9 different homes during our 25 years of marriage, and each one was perfect in its own way. We’ll never forget the summer nights we slept on the main floor of our first home, a cute Northeast Portland bungalow. There was no roof on the second floor as we added our master en suite, as well as a nursery for our first child. It has been a journey and a joy to come to the realization that what we both truly love is renovating homes, and watching the transformation of each project.

Our first house in Bend, Oregon was a 90’s builder-grade home, and Derrick took on the bulk of renovating it himself, from demo to installing new flooring, painting and carpentry to a major kitchen remodel — and much more! We’re still working on it as we write this, and it’ll be a work in progress for several years as we continue to upgrade one room at a time.

Clouz Houz was founded on our love of residential real estate, and on the desire to bring years of personal experience with our own home projects to clients and potential buyers. We invested in our first Bend investment project in 2021. It sold three days on market over asking price. There were bumps in the road for sure (delays, supply chain issues, pandemic, etc.), as there usually are with any project, but we learned from it all and kept on trucking. That’s how we roll!

Follow along with us on this crazy journey of triumphs, errors, laughs, headaches, tears and lots and lots of fun on the way as we lovingly tackle one project at a time. We would love to work with you!

Ok guys, this kitchen may be one of my favorites to date... but then again, I may say that about every kitchen we have designed! LOL. Seriously, kitchens are one of my faves simply because I realize how incredibly important this space is for so many people. Truly the heart of the home. I can imagine meals being enjoyed together, parties gathered around the island, quiet evenings unwinding after a busy day.... So many memories are made in our kitchens! They need to be incredibly functional and beautiful, which makes them one of the more detailed spaces for designers. We ask a lot of questions of our clients, such as: do they prepare meals together or solo, do they want to eat at an island, how many mouths are they feeding on a daily basis... you get the idea.
This kitchen was no different, our clients love to cook and gather as a family. We created a cozy ambience yet highly functional with a large island that houses a prep sink, yet can seat a crew. And we can’t not mention the star of the show, the beautiful Lacanche range that we customized in Farrow & Ball’s “Studio Green” to match the perimeter cabinet where the homeowners heirloom china is stored.
We are here for more beautiful kitchens in 2025! Are you dreaming up your fantasy kitchen? Let’s turn it into reality.
Life is Short. Make it Beautiful.
The dining room in our ‘Oh Hey Highlands’ project is such a perfect example of what we’re all about—blending cherished heirlooms with thoughtfully chosen, newer pieces. When the family asked us to incorporate their family dining table and chairs into the design, we were thrilled. It’s these personal pieces, full of history and meaning, that give a home its soul.
Our design process is all about balance. We paired the classic dining table with these wingback captain’s chairs and houndstooth area rug, creating a fresh yet timeless look that feels elevated but approachable. The key is knowing how to mix textures, finishes, and pattern to make everything feel cohesive. It’s about making the old feel relevant again by bringing in new pieces that complement and highlight their character.
This is why the room works so well-it tells a story. It’s warm, personal, and inviting, which is exactly what we aim for in every space we design. If you’ve ever wondered how to incorporate your favorite pieces into a new design without it feeling disjointed, this is it. Let us help you create spaces that reflect your story and your style, with a mix of old and new that feels perfectly you.
Happy to have you back for part 2 of our #OhHeyHighlands home tour! Stepping into the heart of this home- the living room. With its vaulted ceilings at 20+ feet and expansive bookshelves framing the fireplace, this space was designed with relaxing with family and friends in mind. And if the double coffee tables don’t already give it away, this room is ready for the entire crew to gather for game days, book club, a dinner party, or a party party!
But let’s talk about my favorite part: the velvet green sofas. They bring such a bold yet grounding energy to this predominantly neutral and earthy palette. It’s the perfect balance of comfort, style, and personality-everything you’d want in a space meant for
connection.
Welcome to part 1 of our #OhHeyHighlands home tour: The Entryway- Where first impressions are done right. From the glass-paneled heavy metal front door, to the large scale art gallery with flanking sconces, to the console table styled to welcome its owners and guests alike, this entryway is drenched in luxury. We kept the palette authentic to the landscape which just makes the house feel rich in quality. Come on in and stay awhile!
Let us know what your favorite detail is down below.
We are so excited to share another room in our ‘Oh Hey Highlands’ project. While you’ve seen some of the pretty pictures, I want to take you deeper—into the process, the decisions, and the strategy behind creating spaces that don’t just look good but feel right for how you live. As my guy Chris says, “Trust in me, like I trust in you”! It’s a process that we have refined over the years and we are extremely proud of. Our goal is to walk alongside you amongst the endless decisions- from materials and layouts to finishes and furniture.
And it’s not just about aesthetics; it’s about creating a home that works for your life, that you’ll actually use every day. That’s where we come in. Whether you’re starting a new build, remodeling, or simply trying to make your home feel more personal, we’re here to guide you through it all.
For this bar, there were so many moving parts—a custom steel wine cellar, delicate glass shelves, bold color choices, and layered details to bring it all together. Every decision had to be intentional, functional, and aligned with our client’s vision. It’s a lot to manage, and we know how paralyzing that feeling of decision fatigue can be.
Our job is to take that weight off your shoulders. We streamline the process, so you can trust that every choice is thoughtful and purposeful-no more second-guessing or wondering if it all fits together. And in the end? You’re left with a home that feels deeply personal, effortlessly beautiful, and perfectly tailored to your lifestyle.
