An Easy Formula:
A Beautiful Thanksgiving
Your Guests Will Love

Thanksgiving has always held a special place in my heart. It’s the holiday that’s all about gathering together and enjoying time with loved ones. And, of course, it’s a day filled with delicious food! Growing up, we used to joke that my mom was Martha Stewart. In fact, we just watched the Martha documentary on Netflix and laughed together, reminiscing about how we used to obsess over her every project, recipe, and party trick. My mom matched Martha’s skill and flair … and then some! I’m so grateful for the creativity, warmth and joy she instilled in our family traditions through her amazing meals and festive gatherings.

Over the years, I’ve come to realize just how powerful homemade meals and a beautifully set table can be in making people feel comforted and at home. That’s something I strive to create in our home now, especially as we make memories with our own children. I’m counting down the days until we’re all together under one roof again for the first time since moving into our new home. Just the thought of having everyone around the table this Thanksgiving makes my heart so full!

And, while I’ll always be inspired by Martha’s incredible style and attention to detail, I’ve learned that making things special doesn’t have to be overly complicated. My approach is a little more “Martha Simplified.” It’s about creating beauty and deliciousness without a ton of fuss. So, if you’re looking to set a lovely Thanksgiving table that’s easy to put together, I’ve got you covered. Let’s dive into some simple, yet stunning décor and centerpiece ideas that will bring your Thanksgiving table to life … without all the stress.

Simple & Stunning Thanksgiving Décor Ideas

When it comes to Thanksgiving décor, I’m a firm believer in using what’s easily available and naturally beautiful. You don’t need to go all out with elaborate arrangements to make your table feel festive. Sometimes the simplest pieces are the most striking!

1. Embrace Seasonal Produce as Centerpieces

One of my favorite tricks is to use everyday fruits and vegetables as the centerpiece. Think pears, pomegranates, squash, and artichokes—their colors and textures add a seasonal vibe to the table. Place these directly on the table, or in a series of pedestal plates or bowls. Vary the heights, and stagger them for a more organic, layered look down the center of the table. This setup not only feels festive but is incredibly low-maintenance.

2. Lots of Candles …The More, the Better!

There’s something about candlelight that instantly makes a table feel warm and inviting. For Thanksgiving, the more candles, the better! Try a mix of taper candles in staggered-height candlesticks for that classic elegance, or place a few chunky pillar candles directly on the table or a large platter. And, don’t stress about putting them right on the tablecloth—dried candle wax is surprisingly easy to clean and just peels right off once it has hardened. The glow and ambiance candles bring to the table are very worth it!

3. Linen Tablecloths & Pretty Cloth Napkins for an Elevated Look

Let’s talk linens—these linen tablecloths from Amazon are an absolute game-changer! I bought two for our long outdoor table, and they instantly add a touch of elegance without breaking the bank. The oatmeal color has a warm, earthy tone, but I’m already eyeing the white as well. These are super budget-friendly for the quality, and they’re perfect for doubling up on a longer table.

To take it a step further, add some beautiful cloth napkins to each setting. Cloth napkins, even for the simplest meals, make every dish feel more special! Etsy has many gorgeous, unique options, and I’m currently obsessed with Cabana’s designs—they have the most stunning patterns that add personality and charm to any tablescape.

4. Pair Relaxed Elegance with Beautiful China

To balance that casual, laid-back vibe, bring in beautiful china to add a touch of timeless elegance. I’m lucky enough to have my grandmother’s china, which always makes the table feel extra special. But, if you’re looking for a place to start your own collection or need replacement pieces, there are some amazing sites for finding vintage or gently used sets. One to check out is called Recplacements—my mom has actually ordered from them before to replace pieces in her own set.

Adding these beautiful, unique pieces to your table not only elevates the look but brings a sense of history and tradition to each gathering.

5. Vintage Glassware and Eclectic Flatware

Nothing says charm like vintage or vintage-inspired glassware. Etched glass is especially lovely, and for each setting, I like to include both a water goblet and a wine glass—it gives that layered, curated look. Mixing and matching different styles of glassware can bring in some character, and a touch of color (like amber glass) adds warmth and depth to the table. I’ll link my favorite amber goblets and wine glasses for you—they’re perfect for that cozy, fall feel!

For flatware, don’t be afraid to get creative. Mixing different styles or finishes, even across table settings, gives an eclectic yet intentional look that’s effortlessly beautiful.

6. Flower Arrangements for a Touch of Nature

For an effortless and inviting centerpiece, try using a few low flower arrangements down the table. I’ve learned from the talented Summer Robbins that florists often call this style monofloral. But, honestly, I just adore the simplicity of using one variety of flower in small vessels. It creates a cohesive, stylish look without overwhelming the table.

And remember, it doesn’t have to be all florals! Right now, you might consider deep plum and burgundy shades for that beautiful fall palette. You can even use branches with leaves for a rustic touch that brings the beauty of nature right to your table. These low arrangements keep the conversation flowing, while still adding that charming, seasonal vibe we all love during Thanksgiving.

A Simple Menu to Compliment Your Gathering

Now, let’s talk about the menu! Plates of appetizers are a must, and you can’t go wrong with a big cheese board—it’s a personal favorite in our family. I like to place a large cheese platter out for everyone to graze on while we lounge, usually with a football game on. 🙂

And this year, I’m going back to the basics with a few twists on our dinner menu. I know some families do a ham or roast, but we keep it traditional and roast a turkey. This is Derrick’s territory and he usually knocks it out of the park. I like to pair a few yummy sides that I know are comforting and delicious. I found this recipe for a Butternut Squash Orzo Salad with Candied Bacon from Half Baked Harvest (anything with candied bacon is a YES in our family)

All you need are a few tasty side dishes and everyone is happy. There’s those tried and true (I still love good stuffing and green beans with the crunchy onion topping. But in addition, I plan to try this Macaroni & Cheese recipe by the queen herself, Martha! Our boys absolutely are mac & cheese obsessed so in lieu of hours of peeling potatoes and making mashed potatoes we will go this route this year. I can’t wait to try it!

Lastly, I think this Roasted Bacon Brussel Sprouts with Salted Honey, might honestly get everyone on board with brussel sprouts. (notice the common denominator, bacon? LOL) And of course, our Thanksgiving meal wouldn’t be complete without my grandmother’s home baked crescent rolls. So easy and can be made ahead – just pop in the freezer and ready to bake day of! Check out the recipe below. I hope you enjoy as much as we do. Let me know if you try them!

Oops, one more thing,  we can’t forget a festive cocktail. I love a pitcher of a yummy cocktails for large gatherings… it just makes it easier and simpler if everyone can help themselves to an already mixed and delicious concoction. This Thanksgiving Cider Punch by Half Baked Harvest checks all the boxes for me!
