We’ve made it to spring! Here in Bend, the mornings are still chilly, but by afternoon, the sun finally decides to show up and things can warm up fast. So, getting dressed this time of year is all about layers—outfits that feel put-together, but that can adapt throughout the day. I want pieces I can add or take off easily, while still looking put together. This is where a capsule wardrobe comes in. And I’m fairly new at it… so wanted to share what I’ve rounded up this spring!!
Building a capsule wardrobe is like designing a home—you need strong foundational pieces before layering in the fun details. Just like in interiors, where timeless furniture anchors a space and decor adds personality, your wardrobe should start with versatile, high-quality staples that mix and match effortlessly (this is where you can splurge a little). Then, you can layer in trendier or statement pieces to keep things fresh.
I love putting outfits together, but I also love making life easier. A capsule wardrobe eliminates decision fatigue, ensures everything works together, and makes getting dressed feel effortless. Whether you’re heading to work, running errands, or going out for dinner, having a few key outfit formulas in your back pocket is a game-changer.
You can “skip the line” and shop ALL these pieces on our Shop.LTK page. Check them out! I can only link 30 items per post in LTK, so I divided them into two posts here and here.
What Is a Capsule Wardrobe?
A capsule wardrobe is a curated collection of clothing, made up of pieces that …
- are timeless and never go out of style
- can be mixed and matched effortlessly
- work across multiple occasions (casual, dressy, work, travel)
- are high-quality and built to last
The goal? Fewer pieces, better outfits. Instead of buying into every trend, you focus on a wardrobe that’s functional and versatile—without feeling boring.

How to Build a Capsule Wardrobe for Spring
1. Start With Your Outfit Formulas
The easiest way to build a capsule wardrobe is by knowing which outfit combinations you always reach for. Some of my go-to formulas include:
- Blazer + Basic Tee + Straight-Leg Jeans + Loafers (elevated casual)
- Sweater + Slip Skirt + Ballet Flats (chic & effortless)
- Tailored Pants + Ribbed Tank + Trench Coat + Sneakers (minimal but polished)
- Linen Dress + Strappy Sandals + Crossbody Bag (perfect for spring days)
Think of outfit formulas like a recipe for looking put together—once you have your go-to combinations, you can rotate different pieces and accessories to keep things fresh.
2. Choose a Cohesive Color Palette
To maximize versatility, stick to a color scheme that works together. My personal approach this season? Neutrals first (white, tan, and denim), then sprinkle in pops of metallic, navy and cognac. That way, every piece flows seamlessly together, and nothing feels out of place.
Four Outfits To Wear This Spring
Now that we’ve covered the essentials, let’s get into the actual outfits—the ones that feel fresh, flattering, and work for everything from day-to-day errands to date nights.
Here’s what I’ve put together for you!
Business Casual
I feel so much better when I get dressed with intention for work. A classic neutral workday outfit is the easiest way to look polished — without overthinking it. This look is built around key pieces that mix and match effortlessly—starting with a white tee (forever a staple) tucked into tailored wide-leg trousers (a must for that relaxed yet refined feel). And, for warmer days (I pray they are coming soon!), I chose a shorter option. These Bermuda shorts give the same tailored effect with a breezier and effortless vibe. I’ve been eyeing all the cute silk scarves lately for tying around my neck. The Gucci one above was in my cart from The Real Real, but I waited to long to pull the trigger and now it’s sold. ☹️ So, now I have my eye on this one! I love how it would add a little pop of blue to this otherwise neutral outfit.
Layer & Accessorize
This classic trench coat is the perfect layering piece for spring—lightweight, structured, and always timeless. I’m kinda dying over what a good value it is … I know I’ll be wearing all season! To tie it all together, try suede loafers, a structured tote (because I needed a new work bag… can you believe it’s from AMAZON?!?), and a studded leather belt (also love this cream option) for a little extra detail. Simple, classic, and endlessly versatile.
Chic & Effortless Capsule Wardrobe
This is the kind of outfit that makes running around town feel put together without even trying. A classic striped cardigan layered over a white tee is that effortlessly cool, French-girl staple I always come back to. Paired with straight-leg denim, it feels timeless and easy. But, you know what really seals the deal? A dad sneaker. I’ve been loving them lately for that slightly unexpected, but ultra-functional addition to an everyday outfit. These Asics sneakers are neutral enough with a little metallic touch to elevate the look while still keeping it casual.
Want a Slightly Different Take?
If you’re in the mood to switch things up, try the denim short-sleeved button-up instead of the cardigan, and swap tailored Bermuda shorts for a more transitional weather option. And, if dad sneakers aren’t your thing, Sambas are another great choice—timeless, sleek, and just the right amount of sporty. Either way, this look is a no-fail formula for easy, elevated errand days.
Oh, and a baseball hat! I never leave the house without throwing a cap in my bag for those mid-day hair emergencies.
Dinner Out — Two Ways to Style It
Whether you lean towards something soft and feminine or a bit more structured and cool, a dinner out is the perfect opportunity to show off these pieces
Option One: Classic & Chic
A structured cream blazer (obsessed with the pinstripes on this one). Also, I wished I sized down on this as it is really oversized so tip if you decide to give it a try! I love how it instantly dresses up a simple asymmetrical white top and distressed denim. It’s relaxed but still put together. This look is perfect with Hermes dupe sandals for that little lift that keeps things casual but chic. And this fringe clutch adds a fun moment without overpowering the simplicity of the outfit.
Option Two: Feminine & Elevated
For those who love dressing up, a silky midi skirt is the ultimate dinner-out staple. Paired with the same cream pinstriped blazer or this other option, this look feels polished but still modern. You could even add a wide belt over the blazer for a little something extra (if you know of a good one, please drop me a note!)
Brunch with Friends — Elevated Casual with a Cozy Twist
Brunch outfits need to be the perfect balance of comfort and effort—something that feels comfortable, but still put together—whether you are catching up over coffee or a mimosa (or two). This look does exactly that. A lightweight knit sweater is a go-to layering piece to throw over your shoulders for spring, and it’s ideal when paired with these Target structured wide-leg pants. The matching cropped button-up adds just the right amount of tailoring, making this look feel intentional without trying too hard.
For accessories, a rich cognac bag adds warmth to the neutral tones, while chunky sunglasses give that ‘cool girl’ factor. I went with wedge espadrilles and I’m obsessed, definitely a splurge but I know I will live in them through the summer too.
A Few Ways to Switch It Up
- Sweater over a dress: If you want something even easier, try layering this knit sweater over a striped shirtdress for that effortless Parisian vibe.
- Bag swaps: This structured tote is great for a day full of plans, but a mini bow bag keeps things minimal if you’re heading somewhere dressier.
- Shoes: If espadrilles aren’t your thing, swap for flat slides for a softer, more feminine touch.
Thanks for reading along! I hope some of these pieces work for you too! xx
