Celebrating a Fresh Spring Menu for Mother’s Day

Hey there, lovely people! Can you believe it’s already spring? Time sure does fly … I hope you’ve all been soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the little joys this season brings. Personally, I’ve been loving all the blooming flowers, the longer days, and the feeling of new beginnings in the air. And, Mother’s Day is right around the corner 🤍 Spring always feels like a fresh start, doesn’t it?

Anyway, I thought it was about time we caught up over a little virtual lunch date. So, grab a seat and let’s chat! Lately, life has been a whirlwind of excitement and busyness. From planning the upcoming move into our Tumalo project to spending quality time with loved ones, there’s never a dull moment. Mother’s Day Surprises

First, let’s dive into the delightful world of Mother’s Day surprises (hint hint Clouz family). Picture this: a sunny afternoon, a beautifully set table, and a homemade meal fit for a queen. Sounds like the perfect way to celebrate Mom, doesn’t it? With Mother’s Day just around the corner, show her your love and appreciation with a thoughtfully prepared meal straight from the heart.

Treating her to simplicity with a touch of elegance …

Today, I’m particularly excited to dive into one of my absolute favorite spring recipes. Imagine treating Mom to a delicious homemade salad bursting with fresh flavors. Well, this citrus and burrata salad is just the ticket! It’s light, vibrant, and oh-so-delicious, making it the perfect centerpiece for your Mother’s Day feast. Plus, it’s super easy to whip up, leaving you with more time to spend with Mom and less time stressing in the kitchen. Of course, you could add shredded roasted chicken if you want to make it a little more substantial for  a light dinner. Then, you’ll be totally good to go!

But wait, there’s more! No celebration is complete without a refreshing drink to toast to Mom’s awesomeness. After all, good food tastes even better with great company. So, whether it’s a zesty lemonade, a fruity mocktail, or a crisp glass of rosé, you truly can’t go wrong. So why not toast with a delightful beverage that’ll quench your thirst and lift your spirits? This is a ClouzHouz fave from a while back. It does the trick every time, and the presentation is on par with a spring afternoon brunch. Give this Apricot Blood Orange Martini a try and let me know what you think … it practically tastes like juice 😉

And, let’s not forget about dessert. Springtime calls for light pastries with a twist. Pretty sure scones are going to be the treat of the season (at least I wish them to be)! There’s nothing like a home baked good to brighten your day. This is an easy and semi-healthy treat, easy to grab on your way out the door. I’ve been loving this particular Blueberry Scone Recipe with its flaky and sugary crust.

Tabletop Magic

Now … onto tabletop magic! Elevate your Mother’s Day celebration (or any dinner party for that matter) with a beautifully set table, adorned with her favorite springy china. Then, add a previously stored-away table linen for a touch of elegance. Embrace the mix-matched and eclectic picnic aesthetic – think Grandma’s cherished collections gathered over the years. After all, it’s those special little moments that Mom will treasure forever, so let’s make them count!

We have changed our lives realizing our motto : Life is Short. Make it Beautiful. ✌️

About 5 ½ years ago, we had a real eye-opener experience. After 20 years in the financial industry,, Derrick lost his job. If it hadn’t been for that, I’m not sure we would be on this journey today. But it was then when we truly realized we were not happy with where we were in life. Our life was moving at an extremely hectic and fast pace and we were having a hard time keeping up. We needed to find ways to slow it down. I truly believe the universe had a plan for us because our life trajectory was forever changed. It was then when we came up with our motto and promised ourselves to live by it that day forward.

We picked up our family and moved to Bend, Oregon for a simpler way of living and a fresh perspective on life. We had always dreamed of what it would be like to live here, so we took it as an opportunity to make it happen.

We realized our passion for investing in our personal homes over the years was real… we’ve lived in nine homes (soon to be 10) and flipped three houses over our 26 years of marriage. Each home holds a special place in our hearts…full of memories made in them. Ha, we can’t say it was always a walk in the park- designing and renovating homes involves not only time, energy, money and sweat equity; but also lessons in patience, diligence and grit.

Derrick set out and studied for his General Contractor and Real Estate license so we could continue to invest in homes for resale, but also to partner with me acting as Principal Designer for client projects. I am a self-taught interior designer that has worked in the industry for the past 20 years. We founded Clouz Houz in 2021. Some may think starting a business in our 50s would be just as hectic, but for us, doing what we love makes it all easier.
Transport yourself to spring in Italy ☀️ A year ago this month, I had the opportunity to go on an unforgettable journey to Firenze for a @boxwoodavenue retreat.

Surrounded by like-minded creatives, I immersed myself in the rich history of Italy’s streets, indulged in cooking classes, scoured antique markets for hidden treasures and learned from local artisans about their centuries old techniques. That trip left an indelible mark on my creative soul, reshaping my design perspective and inspiring me to embrace timeless classics and heirloom pieces. Italy truly is a place where creativity thrives, and I’m forever grateful for the experience.

If you ever have the chance to visit, seize it! And if you’re already planning a trip, here are my top 5 must-do’s:
1. Learn the art of making fresh pasta.
2. Lose yourself in the vintage flea markets for unique finds.
3. Experience the charm of Il Salviantino hotel - every corner is a photo op!
4. Savor some of the best espresso martinis (IMO)!
5. Join a guided walking tour to learn and soak in the sights effortlessly.
Join me behind the scenes as I add the finishing touches to our Tumalo kitchen! We sourced these brass pulls from @sumnerstreethardware. We then stumbled upon the coolest brand, @walnutstudiolo, known for their handmade leather hardware.

We opted for the the Tilikum + Flanders handles and the Oswego leather wraps for our kitchen. And let me tell you- these wraps are seriously ingenious! You simply wrap the leather around the handles for an instant rustic vibe.

I’ve been itching to infuse a leather element into our kitchen design, and I have a feeling this is going to be just perfect. Stay tuned for the grand reveal – it’s all coming together so beautifully!
