1. The Power of Lush Landscaping

A well-designed landscape sets the tone for your outdoor space, instantly elevating its ambiance and creating a welcoming atmosphere for you and your guests.

Sure, landscaping can seem like a pricey endeavor, especially if you’re starting from scratch. But, there are plenty of budget-friendly options that can help you achieve the look without spending a check.

One of our top recommendations? Start with evergreen species. These plants stay green year-round, providing a solid foundation for your landscape design. From there, you can supplement with seasonal annuals for pops of color, and perennials that come back year after year, ensuring your backyard stays vibrant and beautiful no matter the season.

Of course, if you’re ready to go all-in, investing in a complete landscaping overhaul is a practical and worthwhile choice.

2. Quality Pots and Planters for your Patio

When it comes to creating a picture-perfect outdoor space, don’t overlook the power of pots and planters. These versatile additions not only add depth and dimension to your landscape, but also serve as focal points that tie the entire look together.

Investing in good quality pots is key, especially if you live in colder climates like Central Oregon. Opt for frost-proof options to ensure durability through the seasons. Personally, I have a soft spot for terracotta pots – the older and more weathered, the better. If you’re eager to achieve that aged look quickly, I even shared some tips in a reel a while back. Check it out here!

When selecting pots and planters, size matters. Go big or go home, as they say! Larger containers not only make a statement but also provide ample space for your plants to thrive. Aim for at least a 21″ diameter for that resort-style vibe that instantly transports you to a tropical paradise.

So, whether you’re dreaming of a Mediterranean-inspired patio or a lush tropical retreat, quality pots and planters are your secret weapon!

3. Creating Ambiance with the Perfect Lighting

As the sun sets, there’s something magical about the warm glow of lights that transforms your outdoor space. Whether you’re entertaining guests or simply unwinding after a long day, the right lighting sets the stage for an unforgettable evening.

Ambiance is key, and achieving that cozy, inviting atmosphere is easier than you might think. It’s all about layering soft, warm lights to create a sense of depth and intimacy that makes your space feel truly special.

Start by hanging a pendant light over your dining table. Not only will this provide practical illumination for meals, but it also adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to your outdoor dining experience.

Next, consider incorporating wall sconces or string lights. These versatile lighting options are perfect for creating an ambiance that begs you to linger a little longer. For a romantic touch, nothing beats the flickering glow of candles. Lanterns or hurricanes are ideal for housing candles and adding a touch of charm. And, let’s not forget about practical lighting solutions: battery-operated lamps are perfect for illuminating dining tables or bar areas.

4. Crafting Purposeful Spaces

In the art of outdoor design, creating distinct areas for different activities is key to maximizing your space and enhancing its functionality. Whether it’s dining al fresco, lounging in the sun, or gathering around the fire pit, each area should feel purposeful and inviting.

That’s where outdoor rugs come into play. Not only do they add a layer of comfort underfoot, but they also serve as visual cues that delineate different zones within your space.

5. Adding Warmth to Your Outdoor Haven

As the sun disappears and the evening chill sets in, there’s nothing quite like gathering around a crackling fire to keep the conversation going and the good times rolling. In Bend, where evenings can get downright chilly, incorporating a heat element into your outdoor space is a must-have for extending your enjoyment well into the night.

Whether you opt for a traditional wood-burning fire pit or the convenience of a propane model, the warmth it provides are sure to elevate your experience. And, to enhance the cozy factor even further, consider draping inexpensive throw blankets over sofas or chairs, inviting guests to snuggle up.

We have changed our lives realizing our motto : Life is Short. Make it Beautiful. ✌️

About 5 ½ years ago, we had a real eye-opener experience. After 20 years in the financial industry,, Derrick lost his job. If it hadn’t been for that, I’m not sure we would be on this journey today. But it was then when we truly realized we were not happy with where we were in life. Our life was moving at an extremely hectic and fast pace and we were having a hard time keeping up. We needed to find ways to slow it down. I truly believe the universe had a plan for us because our life trajectory was forever changed. It was then when we came up with our motto and promised ourselves to live by it that day forward.

We picked up our family and moved to Bend, Oregon for a simpler way of living and a fresh perspective on life. We had always dreamed of what it would be like to live here, so we took it as an opportunity to make it happen.

We realized our passion for investing in our personal homes over the years was real… we’ve lived in nine homes (soon to be 10) and flipped three houses over our 26 years of marriage. Each home holds a special place in our hearts…full of memories made in them. Ha, we can’t say it was always a walk in the park- designing and renovating homes involves not only time, energy, money and sweat equity; but also lessons in patience, diligence and grit.

Derrick set out and studied for his General Contractor and Real Estate license so we could continue to invest in homes for resale, but also to partner with me acting as Principal Designer for client projects. I am a self-taught interior designer that has worked in the industry for the past 20 years. We founded Clouz Houz in 2021. Some may think starting a business in our 50s would be just as hectic, but for us, doing what we love makes it all easier.
Transport yourself to spring in Italy ☀️ A year ago this month, I had the opportunity to go on an unforgettable journey to Firenze for a @boxwoodavenue retreat.

Surrounded by like-minded creatives, I immersed myself in the rich history of Italy’s streets, indulged in cooking classes, scoured antique markets for hidden treasures and learned from local artisans about their centuries old techniques. That trip left an indelible mark on my creative soul, reshaping my design perspective and inspiring me to embrace timeless classics and heirloom pieces. Italy truly is a place where creativity thrives, and I’m forever grateful for the experience.

If you ever have the chance to visit, seize it! And if you’re already planning a trip, here are my top 5 must-do’s:
1. Learn the art of making fresh pasta.
2. Lose yourself in the vintage flea markets for unique finds.
3. Experience the charm of Il Salviantino hotel - every corner is a photo op!
4. Savor some of the best espresso martinis (IMO)!
5. Join a guided walking tour to learn and soak in the sights effortlessly.
Join me behind the scenes as I add the finishing touches to our Tumalo kitchen! We sourced these brass pulls from @sumnerstreethardware. We then stumbled upon the coolest brand, @walnutstudiolo, known for their handmade leather hardware.

We opted for the the Tilikum + Flanders handles and the Oswego leather wraps for our kitchen. And let me tell you- these wraps are seriously ingenious! You simply wrap the leather around the handles for an instant rustic vibe.

I’ve been itching to infuse a leather element into our kitchen design, and I have a feeling this is going to be just perfect. Stay tuned for the grand reveal – it’s all coming together so beautifully!
